Morgan

Elli was really nervous as we took the GO train back towards her home. I had offered her one of my tshirts to wear over her torn dress, and it was adorably huge on her. She gave me awkward smiles in between looking out the window. The light amplified her freckles, and accentuated her pale skin. She brushed her hair back tensely. I wanted to make her feel better, I just didn't know how.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

“Yup,” she said, the pitch in her voice drastically heightening.

“Are you sure?” I pushed.

“I'm just...you know, you don't have to come in when I get my dogs. You can wait for me outside, or even at my place...or no...maybe not at my place...but...”

Her neurosis was making her sound funny, and yet I couldn't help but want to tease her a little. She made it so easy.

“You don't want me to meet your folks?” I paused, “and...what? You don't trust me at your place alone? Not sure which is more insulting. I'm good enough to be inside you, but...”

Her face immediately flushed, and I realized I went too far.

“No...no...I'm sorry, Morgan, I didn't mean...”

I quickly put my hand on hers, pulling her closer to me. I had really done it with that last comment.

“I'm sorry, I was just joking.”

She let out a sigh, pushing her hair away again. She moved away from me as she began to compose herself. Touching her blushed face slightly.

“Here's the deal. My parents are weird. Like me weird...only...you know. It's different because we are...you know. Nevertheless, they will say some inappropriate shit, that's guaranteed. They can't help it. If you really want to come in, do so at your own peril.

“And the reason I said the thing about not waiting at my place, was because I momentarily forgot that I have a roommate, the girl I mentioned before.”

“The not so friend friend?”

“Yes. Her. We live together. I can't really afford a place by myself. She's okay...a little slutty. Not that I...well. Not that I'm worried in that sense,” she breathed deeply, “she watched your show with me, I mean, we were both big fans of it. I would just be worried she might do or say something embarrassing.”

“Listen, I understand why you might be a little nervous, we barely know each other, and meeting your parents is a big deal. However, I'd really love to meet them, if you are okay with it,” I reassured her, “and I wouldn't worry about your friend. It's not like I've never met fans before. Not to mention if she's as you described, you have nothing to be concerned about.”

“I'm not like jealous or...” Elli caught herself, “okay, this will be fine.”

I got the feeling she was talking to herself more than me.
